Thomas N. Hansen, MD, joined Seattle Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in October of 2005 as President. Dr. Hansen received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine, with postdoctoral fellowships in neonatal medicine at Baylor and in pediatric pulmonary disease at the University of California, San Francisco. Formerly Dr. Hansen served as Chairman and CEO of Columbus Children’s while retaining his title of Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. During his ten-year tenure, Columbus became one of the nation’s five largest free-standing children’s hospitals and one of the ten largest pediatric research centers.
Dr. Hansen is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. He currently serves on the Boards of the Seattle Science Foundation and the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and has held leadership roles with the Board of Trustees of the International Pediatric Research Foundation, the Sub-Board of Neonatal Perinatal Medicine of the American Board of Pediatrics, the Organization of Neonatology Training Program Directors, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the Board of Ohio Children’s Hospitals Association. He has served on panels and external advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health regarding children’s health care, and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions and the Executive Committee of American Association of Academic Pediatric Department Chairs.
Dr. Hansen is working closely with Seattle Children’s Hospital’s world-class physician-scientists to significantly expand the hospital’s research capabilities, to maintain Children’s strong commitment to providing excellent patient care and to achieve Children’s vision of becoming the best pediatric hospital in the nation for the benefit of the children in our care.
