RODNEY F. HOCHMAN, M.D.

In April, 2007, Rod Hochman, MD assumed his role as President and Chief Executive Officer of Swedish Health Services, one of the Northwest's largest, most comprehensive healthcare systems representing virtually all medical, diagnostic and surgical specialties. Swedish is comprised of three hospital campuses totaling 1245 licensed beds, a free-standing emergency facility, Swedish Physician Division, a home health and hospice program, and an array of medical office buildings. In addition to general medical and surgical care, Swedish is known as a regional referral center, providing treatment in the areas of oncology, cardiac care, neurology, high risk obstetrics, orthopedics, and organ transplantation, as well as a number of specialty programs, including addiction recovery services, sleep disorders and home care services.

Dr. Hochman came to Swedish from Sentara Healthcare where he served as Executive Vice President. In that capacity, he was responsible for the operations of five Southside hospitals (1,251 licensed beds), Sentara Bayside, Leigh, Norfolk General, Obici and Virginia Beach General as well as Sentara Medical Group (330+ providers) and Sentara'''''s Legal and Corporate Compliance divisions. He joined Sentara in 1998 as its Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. In that role he was responsible for the clinical effectiveness program, physician integration efforts, and medical management for its 6–hospitals and 300,000 member HMO. He was selected as the 2001 Physician Executive Award of Excellence sponsored by the Modern Physician magazine. He assumed the additional role as administrator of the system's flagship facility, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a 569–bed tertiary hospital in mid–2002. During that time, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital won the Quest for Quality National Award from the American Hospital Association. He has been instrumental in leading the turnaround effort at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology, a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Norfolk Academy of Medicine. He served on the boards of the FoodBank of Southeastern Virginia, Old Dominion University's College of Health Sciences Advisory Board and the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) Strategic Planning & External Affairs Committee, Sentara Health Plan Board and the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation Board.

His previous post was at the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati as Senior Executive Officer of Alliance Primary Care; Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Partners and senior physician, Policy Committee, Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati. He had been the Chief of Medicine at Christ Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He served on the Board of Directors for the Health Alliance, a six-hospital system in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served as the Assistant Dean for undergraduate/graduate education at Guthrie Health System and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the State University of New York Health Science Center.
