Paul Otake, founder and retired President and Chairman of Aflac Japan, currently serves the company as Executive Advisor. Having established International Insurance Agency Group (IAG) in 1972, Otake became representative of Aflac’s Tokyo office before the establishment of the Japan branch in 1974, serving as Vice President of Marketing from 1974 until he was promoted to President of Aflac Japan in 1986. Otake was subsequently named Chairman of Aflac Japan in 1995, and became Executive Advisor in January 2003 after his retirement from that positon.
Otake currently serves as President of the Foundation for Advancement of International Science, member of the Board of Trustees of International University of Health and Welfare, and Councilor of the Japan Foundation for United Nations University.
Tokyo Enterprise of Advanced Medical Network aka TeamNET
Is a community-style consortium designed to enhance insurance, healthcare, and welfare for average citizens, to advance informatization and promote scientific technology in the field of healthcare, and to contribute to improving the common good. TeamNET has its origins in the research of a scheme for the sharing of electronic medical chart information led by the Tokyo–Bay Medical Frontier Center in June 2002.
Under Mr. Otake's guidance, TeamNET is helping to establish the Tokyo Science Foundation (TSF) to provide physician and clinician training, particularly in the fields of cardiovascular, neuroscience and gastroenterology. TSF will provide 1) life-surgery programs, (2) training with models and surgical instruments, and (3) training through simulation. TeamNet’s strong connection with major universities and medical institutions in the Tokyo area, bring another vital factor to the sustainability and effective propagation of the education and training content to students as well.
